Wetland delineation is crucial in the process of protecting and rehabilitating our wetlands. Through the wetland delineation we can:
(1) Identify the location of important wetlands (some of which are only wet for a few months of the year) and apply important buffer zones.
(2) Remove any barriers to the wetland function, whether these are alien plants, animal erosion, inappropriate fire regimes or man-made structures.
By partnering with NGOs, academics, conservation organisations and wetland specialists, approximately 28 000 hectares of wetlands found within forestry-owned land have been demarcated and conserved. This is only the beginning – wetland conservation is something to which, as an industry, we are fully committed on an ongoing basis.
