My research focuses on the quantification and productivity of biomass manual collection in two systems, namely, mechanised full tree and semi-mechanised tree length. Currently, South Africa is having an energy crisis which poses a threat to the country. The introduction of an alternative energy source could help alleviate this. The research has the potential to benefit the nearest communities (job creation), reduce negative environmental impacts and improve the security of energy.
