Since 2012, FSA through TIPWG has been funding research looking into potential alternatives for paraquat, conducted by Professor Keith Little, Nelson Mandela University (NMU) .

Professor Little presented this research at the Crop Production, Soil Science, Horticultural Science, Weed Science Combined Conference in Bloemfontein, where it received the SASCP Award for the Best Paper Presented in Crop Protection.
